BOA® Technology was found by Gary Hammerslag in 1998.
When Gary went to snowboarding and tightened his shoelace one day, he couldn’t pull the lace enough by standing still. Even he could make it, he couldn’t gain a fit he deserved. Then, he started to work on how he gained a perfect fit with an easy way.
Because of this discovery, a remarkable system was innovated and “BOA® Closure System” was born. As a result of utilizing his passion, knowledge of outdoor sports, and his long-term experience working on medical catheter, the first prototype of closure system with a function of dialing a push and turn button had been completed. In 2001 for the first time, the system was applied on snowboarding boots. Since then the system has been applied on not only for snowboarding boots, but also for equipments of other sports including golf, tennis, and triathlon that requires perfect fit for their higher record and better performance. We, SHIBATA, put our eyes on this technology and though that we were able to create revolutionary safety shoes with this system. After 2 years of enormous trials, SB3004 has been born. We dedicated our efforts to making higher mobility with perfect fit as well as designing it stylish.
